Kolkata - Victoria Memorial
Cal’s gradually waking up later and later but we’re usually the first ones up. Breakfast was omelettes and coffee. You have to ask the kitchen for both, and we’re not really sure what else we can ask for.
We went to the Victoria Memorial and experienced our new lives as celebrities. Everybody wanted pictures with us. Through the trip we’ve been asked here and there for a photo, but not like this. I think it was because so many of the people there were tourists from other parts of India, and they assumed we were famous people. At one point a few of us sat on a bench and it became an invitation to come get a photo with us. There were probably 50 different cameras used in just a few minutes.
The memorial was ok. It had some cool artifacts, paintings, and gardens. It was super busy, and getting busier as we left. We had a free tour guide, so we learned a bit about the construction of the monument.
I bought Cal a great hat to protect him from the sun. He hates it but he’ll wear it if he’s sleeping.
We drove past one of the temples here, called the Birla Mandir. It looked really cool at night. It’s fairly modern, finished in the 90s.
At night we went to the rooftop bar called Cal-on in a 5 star hotel. They had some nice beer and pizza and some unusual cocktails. Andy got one served in a helmet, others had giant bubbles or lots of foam.
