Langkawi - First Day

Early start this morning as our flight left at 1 AM. We’re flying air Asia and I made sure we had a checked bag and we were 5 KG under the limit. However, they also have 7kg weight limits on all of your carry-on and personal items. Ours are about 25kg between them, so we got to pay for another checked bag. Only $40 this time instead of $400.
This plane had the tightest seats, I couldn’t even sit normally, I had to lean forward the whole 4 hour flight. They left several exit rows open, but they were blocked off. Cal slept the whole time though. I’m going to look up what type of plane that was and make sure never to fly on it again. We transferred through Kuala Lumpur without issue and had a quick 1 hour flight to Langkawi. The seats were a more standard size.
Langkawi is an island in Malaysia just south of Thailand. We don’t really know much about it or Malaysia in general, so we’re ready to learn.
Our resort is right on the water with a small private beach.
There are maybe 15 units here of little one room huts with semi-exterior bathrooms. There is a wall around each hut, but there are just curtains in the shower and bathroom area. I found it very peaceful and convenient to be outside, but we did have a critter steal the top of one of Cal’s bottles while it was in the bathroom.
I took a 90 minute walk to see what’s nearby our resort. There isn’t much. We’re actually right next to the airport, and the first plane we heard must have gone right over us because it was so loud. Other ones have been barely noticeable, so I don’t think it’s going to be a problem.
Much like Kolkata, there are cows roaming freely here, but they’re out grazing the fields instead of the trash piles. It feels very rural where we are. On my walk I passed 2 hotels, 3 restaurants, and a convenience store which was also a bakery. Everything feels more neat and clean compared to India.
We had dinner at the little bistro here at the resort. I want to say the food was mostly Irish, and they have Guiness and Tiger beer (from Singapore) on tap. The staff was very friendly and always made sure Cal had his “Baileys” to drink.
