Rough first few days
Flying
We’re flying through Paris to Malaga. We just got back from thanksgiving at Molly’s family’s place last night and got a bunch of packing done.
The flight to Paris went fine, but when we got there we got stuck on a bus and had to go through another check and we didn’t have our new boarding passes. Really bizarre setup for transfers. We missed our connecting flight and the next direct one was 12 hours later. So we got to enjoy sleeping in the Charles de Gaulle airport.
We had some chores to keep us busy during the layover. Washing some clothes in the sink, finding diapers and and chapstick, and scouting out all the possible food options before choosing one. Fortunately we had all our chargers in our carryons, so we could keep everything charged.
We took turns sleeping and watching Cal and the bags. The blanket really came in handy, as the floor of the airport is thin carpet over concrete. There are only a few seats that could be slept on and they’re right next to the busy gates. I slept some in the chairs but the floor was the right call.
We had lunch at The French Taste. Molly had chicken with asparagus and onion and red wine. I had duck breast with mashed carrots and a beer. It was a small meal for $100. We just got main dishes “Platos”
At some points I was walking to stay awake and almost stumbled from falling asleep on my feet. Cal did sleep a lot in the airport but that may mean he won’t be ready to sleep tonight.
On the flight to Malaga, the very last person to board was assigned to sit by us but he offered to find another seat. Maybe to get away from the baby or maybe just to be nice. So we had an extra seat which made it less crowded. Cal didn’t sit much in the seat but it gave us a place to set other things and more leg room. Probably wouldn’t have been able to sleep without the extra seat, but probably got an hour or so.
We ubered to our hotel and got in but they didn’t have the crib ready for us tonight. Somehow it didn’t show up on the reservation. We made do with a suitcase heavily padded with diapers.
